| Where do the
stars go during the day?
Each morning, after the stars have
tired out from a busy night of playing in the sky, the big
mean sun comes up and scares them away. The stars, one by
one, hide in the ocean, waiting to come out and play again
at the end of the day.
|
| Do you have
manuals online?
Nada, but you can order brand new
ones from us. Operation Manuals & their pritti pritti
covers found ovah here.
|
| All
these patch storage locations, and I can't remember what's what!
Is there anything I can use to manage my patches?
Absolutely. Emagic's
SoundDiver contains librarian & editor modules for
the SE-1 and ATC-1, and an Omega module is on the way. The
never crashing Galaxy still rules nonetheless... same
goes for StudioVision.
|
| These specs
mean nothing to me. What's the REAL difference between the SE-1X
and the Omega 2?
Mono vs. stereo/2 part multi-timbral
for starters. One external input processor vs. 2 auto-triggering
external input processors. Additionally, the absence of an
Oscillator, in the case of the Omega and a more modern VCA
design (think Moog Source transistor array), dramatically
distinguish it from the SE-1X. The SE-1X uses the classic
Minimoog VCA design. I must have an SE-1 for the leads, with
its three oscillator groove and spongier amplifier. And conversely
my Omega 2 has that tight low end, snappier envelopes and
positively transparent "voice" perfect for my bass
needs.* Ring-mod on the SE. Cross-Mod on the Omega2. Linear
glide on the SE. Exponential on the Omega. Pick your poison
friend, it's all good. Massive sound effects abound on both
boxes.
I adore 'em, both. Each synth has its own groove, if
you will; couldn't live without either of 'em. But check it:
The additional S.E.M. filter modes, the 5-6 stage envelopes,
and the Multi-timbral power, i.e., the extra voice and independent
MIDI channel, of the Omega Series Synths do tend to open up
the patch programming flava and function considerably.
Please peep the web-site for a spec-by-spec comparison.
Both available in custom
finishes (I recommend the chrome edition) and graphics,
i.e., logos, signature drop-shadows...
* Ironic considering how many bomb beats have been put down
with an SE-1 bumpin' the bassline.
|
| OK, I see
where we're going with this. What about the SE-1X versus the
ATC-1?
Some helpful 411, some of which may
look a bit familiar:
The absence of an Oscillator in the case of the ATC-1 and
a more modern VCA (think Moog Source transistor array) design,
distinguish it from the SE-1X. The SE-1X uses the classic
Minimoog VCA design. I must have an SE-1X for leads, with
its three oscillator groove and spongier amplifier.* And conversely
my ATC-1 has got that tight low end, snappier envelopes, and
positively transparent "voice"; perfect for my basses.
Ring-mod on the SE-1X, Cross-Mod on the ATC-1. Linear glide
on the SE, Exponential on the ATC. Pick your poison friend,
its' all good. Massive sound effects abound on both.
The O.S. on the ATC-1 is essentially a closed affair, while
the SE-1X is flash-upgradeable and open ended, at this point.
Of course the knobs and switches on the X are a joy to use
for sending simultaneous controller data. I appreciate 'em
equally. Do peep the web-site for a spec-by-spec comparison.
SE-1X available in custom
finishes (i recommend the Lexus Grey edition) and graphics,
i.e., logos, signature drop-shadows...
* Again, odd considering how many worldwide joints have straight
dominated with an SE1 destroying the
bassline.
|
| I'm not done
yet! What about comparing the ATC-1 to the Omega 2? Can you
do it? Huh, tough guy?
The filters are sonically identical.
What follows is not exhaustive (close) but illuminating.
ATC-1:
Single voice
Mono output
1 external input processor
c.v. and gate input and output
512 patches in RAM
Mini filter standard - 2 band S.E.M., 2600, 303 filter optional
3, 4 stage envelopes - quasi exponential
Exponential glide
1 digital rotary encoder, 50 candy colored membrane switches
3 character red l.e.d. display
2 rack spaces
10 lbs.
10 inches deep
...pretty candy colors r nice...
Omega 2:
Double voice, 2 part multi-timbral
2 Individual stereo outputs
One main stereo, one main mono output
2 auto-triggering external input processors
256 sound patches, 128 Multi patches in RAM
Mini filter, 4 band S.E.M. filter standard - internally mounted
2600, and 303 filter optional.
3, 5-6 stage envelopes - true exponential
Exponential and linear glide
Arpeggiator
1 rotary encoder, 12 knobs, 30 tactile switches
16x2 back lit liquid crystal display
2 rack spaces
10 lbs.
15 inches deep
...little brother to the Omega8...
Each synth has its own voice. JUST DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE!
But check it: The additional S.E.M. filter modes, and "deeper"
envelopes provide much in the way of sonic diversion, and
diversity with the Omega Series. Omega 2 available in custom
finishes (i recommend the candy apple red edition) and
graphics, i.e., logos, signature drop-shadows...
Call us if you need to go deeper.

| SE-1X/SE-1 |
| Is my SE-1
upgradable to the SE-1X?
Absolutely. Check out the X
Upgrade page for more info, but do it soon, cuz there's
a waiting list.
|
|
I have a late model SE-1 that
has a second unmarked 1/4" jack on the back. What's it
for?
That's the external audio input. It
takes the place of the Noise Source when an input is plugged
in.
|
| My
SE-1 seems to be drifting out of tune over the course of the
day. I have it wedged under my sofa with four tons of fiberglass
insulation around it. Is this a bad idea?
Of course it is! Your SE-1 needs room
to breaaaaaathe, my friend. As we've posted on the
mailing list, A space above,
a space below... didn't Jimmy say that, as well? Expect a
natural drift of 10-12 ticks... remember this monsta is keepin'
it real... very real.
|
| Dear Mr. Analogia:
I only have one bank in my SE-1
You need to cut a trace, add a jumper
wire and update your OS to 2.51. Peep this finely
illustrated .jpg to get the modification specifics then
visit our store to price and purchase an OS
2.51 EPROM.
|
| I bought my
SE-1X (or SE-1) off the back of a truck. How do I get a new
manual?
Thanks 4 buying our handmade gear.
$15.75 gets u an SE-1, or SE-1X manual.
Operation Manuals & their pretty pretty covers found ovah
here.
|
| I see this
fancy schmancy SE-1X on your site, but do you still make the
SE-1?
We no longer make the SE-1 (used b-stock
trade-in units often available), only the SE1X. The
X Upgrade Info should help to point out the major differences
between the two. Check the SE-1X
pages for further info - brochures waste trees - and peep
the popup jpg for some visual aid. Nothing can compare to
the S.E. "discrete analog sound engine" approach.
There is a reason why the world - from Hiphop and R&B,
to Film Scoring and all things Euro, looks to STUDIO ELECTRONICS,
for that warm, dependable sound and soul satisfying analogue
phattness.
|
| What does
the back of the SE-1X look like?
Chick Hearns. God love 'im. And our
prayers are with you Chicky baby.
However, if you do not have the Limited Edition "Legendary
Sportscaster " Model, it may look something like this
(scroll to the bottom).
|
| I'm
not sure about the meaning of life... or what the CONTINUOUS
CONTROLLER ASSIGNMENTS for the SE-1X are. Do you hate me?
Well, not really. At least not until
you ask this querry via email. Everybody LOL!
Now go here friend: Chart
|
| Are
the technical specs still available for the discontinued SE-1?
Only for maternal blood relatives,
on alternating Fat Tuesdays, or, in special cases like
yours: Specs

 |
| ATC-1 |
| Are the envelopes
linear or exponential? Are they hardware- or software-based?
Quasi-exponential software curves
- Caswells hermetic blend of 11.11 non-irradiated herbs &
spices.
|
| I love the
ATC sound, but every time i use it, the machine is out of tune!
I've tried to use the master tune, but unfortunately it is more
a question of individual notes. What's up?
Sounds like your unit looked at and
"luved up", i.e., tuned, calibrated and cleaned-up.
Drop us an email
and we'll see what we can do for you.
|
| I need an

| OMEGA
SERIES |
| Why isn't
my multi function working?
The transdimensional actuator isn't
correctly inserted into the positron 13db filter generator.
Actually, it does work, and quite well, in fact. You need
to get the latest OS for the Omega, available here.
|
| What's the
difference between the Omega-2 and the two-voice Omega 8?
The sound of the dedicated 2 voice
is identical to 8, however, if one wants to upgrade from 2
voice to 8, gradually or suddenly, one must purchase a large
chassis version Omega (4 rack space chassis); essentially
a stripped down Omega 8. Will cost a bit more to be incremental
in your polyphonic additions, as the unit and its surrounding
filters need to be recalibrated each time the lid is popped.
Call 4 prices: 310.640.3546 or 818.776.8104.
Both available in custom
finishes (i recommend the Envi Green"signature edition")
and graphics, i.e., logos, signature drop-shadows...
|
| The Omega8
is pretty sharp, but it doesn't match my yellow socks, the sole
reason for my existence. Can I get a customized paint job?
A "Signature Series" among
other competition-crushing-custom-options for the Omega Series
Synths is now available - bend space-time, and click here
to see what it's all about.
|
| I
have a Omega8 eight voice on order. Question: can you just add
one ARP 2600 filter to the Omega8 eight voice? If I just want
to be able to create monophonic ARP 2600 leads/basses, would
this work?
Certainly. Example: One would assign
the synth card, or voice (ideally set to a mono patch), docking
the 2600, that filter destination (termed: AUX 1) and
could make good use of it in MULTI, PREPARED, or SPLIT 1-7,
with it covering the bass or lead register, or any other for
that matter.
|
| I
need the patch names for the Omega 8; and why aren't they included
in the manual to begin with playa?
We been busy taking over the the world.
Solution here
for Mac; und here
for PC.

| MIDIMINI |
| Are
you guys still making MIDIMINIS?
Technically, yes, but you should contact
us for more information?
|
|
I'd
like to buy either an SE-1X or a MIDIMINI but I can't decide
which one to get. While I appreciate that the SE-1X comes
very close to the real Minimoog sound, I wonder whether the
MIDIMINI might have an edge over it in terms of sound quality.
By the way, does the MIDIMINI use real Moog components or
does it not?
There hasn't been the demand necessary to sustain production
of the MIDIMINI for several years. However, it it possible
an updated MIDMINI MAX (prototype debuted at summer '02 NAMM)
could come late this year; but at around $2900.00 it might
be priced outside of certain consumers means. I MSR, have
both units and the MIDIMINI, brilliant though it "be",
is rarely utilized. The SE-1X is much more capable, versatile
and most importantly inspiring, with no discernible
compromise in sound quality to my ears. I work that reedy
12db S.E.M. filter to death (not included on the Minimoog
of course).
For the record: Our 19" rackmount
MIDIMINI is a part for part, lovingly point to point wired,
mil-spec (where necessary), reproduction of the original Moog's
guts and glory, with many added hardware innovations
and improvements - not to mention the effective and elegant
software interface; as with all things S.E.: Proudly
hand-crafted and assembled in the U.S. of A..
