Hello Marc St. Regis,
"...I wanted to say that i really love the demonstrations (i hear them about twelve times a day :-). I'm a synthesizer fool, and i've heard many show tunes, but mostly (and often for good reasons...) they are dance-music or techno-pieces. Not bad made ones of course (i like the demo "endorphins" of the access virus), but as usual for this music with annoying harmonical content. Well, your songs are more interesting, and are showing more of the synths possibilities, which is - in my eyes - more important. And - they are COOL music. Perhaps your demonstrations are better for a real analog synth, i don't want to say that you can't make techno lines with a minimoog or the omega, but the advantages of analog gear can perhaps better heard on the demos you do..."

Kilian

Hello Technical department,
I'm a very satisfied SE1X user, I'm practically running all my basslines on this unit.
I'm that kind of guy that like's to keep my equipment in mint condition. Recently I bought an original Minimoog which has very scratched knobs, so I was wondering If
I could buy some knobs from you, or maybe you could tell me where to get them.

Hi!
Just got my ATC and I'm representin' some wicked shizat! This thing is the bomb. Unfortuitously, "great condition" seems to mean out of tune with a big ol scratch across the top for the guy who sold it to me. Anyways, this thing needs some luv and luckily I live in the San Fernando Valley and can drop it off anytime. I need some help over here. Holler at me.

"...let me just say that i love my SE-1X! i wouldn't trade it for anything!
also, it's considerably cheaper feature-for-feature than a minimoog... the SE-1X
is MIDI only and not expandable. the only expansion is the external audio input. [Actualy standard on the SE-1X.] the minimoog voyager also has an x-y-z pad (like a ribbon controller). but don't think that you are compromising on sound with the SE-1X. it's a warm, phat, 3-oscillator, analog beast, not some wannabe 2-oscillator, virtual analog synth... it has both the oberheim 12db filter and the the 24db moog filter. it
also has more oscillator options, more lfo & envelope options. and of course, it has all the patch storage options. also, it's new with warranty. minimoogs are over 20 years
old. you have to deal with deterioration. you might need to pay a tech to restore it.
they are also greatly overpriced on the used market..."

Hi Greg,
thanks for calling me back. Unfortunately I missed your call.
Anyway, we opened the synth and found that one connector had come loose.
So we put it back in and the problem was solved.

It sounds ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the very best synthesizer there is!!!! No competition at all.

I used to own a MiniMoog, an ARP Odyssey and a Prophet 5. Sold them all, a long time ago. But the Omega is so much better......... can't remember when I last had so much fun with a synth.........
Keep up the good work! (And I'm already thinking of buying another one...

Hey Mark/Greg... Dan & Chris here... we're the ones that brought in the old SE-1 (B stock, I think) a couple months ago for a trade/fix, and had Greg fix it for us... Mark, Chris loved the Omega so much he bought a 2 voice model in an 8 voice chassis, and we're LOVE'N IT!!!
Love to have you add your link to our site. There is a song up there to listen to, which we used the SE-1 in (the bass). We finished the song just after we got the SE-1, and before we got the Omega, so we didn't have a chance to use the Omega or more of the SE-1 on it... but the bass is rich, full, and dominates in the music (it could not possibly be missed).
We'll have new songs up VERY SOON, with TON'S of Omega in them.
(Oh ya baby!)

I'll be gettin' me another ATC - found one at Corner Music Nashville (That is unless I have a windfall and can swing an Omega or SE1-x). I do have to say your little mono synth is more fun to play than any synth on the market today. That includes the virtual synths as well as the supa-dupa workstations. Drippy, dopey, greasy, gooey... phat.

My name is nosajg and I have been a user of SE gear for sometime now. In my studio I use the SE1 and the ATC-1 w/Mini,SEM and 303 carts. Hi there extreme magicians of the analogue world beyond,
Somebody wrote in a review in a synth-website:
"Hmmmm - now should I get the Omega 2 case version, which is sadly lacking
in knobs, or a Omega 2 with a Omega 8 case, which is a bit more expensive,
but allows future expansion, and you get the full complement of knobs?
Is that possible to buy? Also for a guy who lives in Denmark? And how much is it
for that version? I know, I have to pay round about 1500 pounds for the omega2
at www.turnkey.uk.com.... Last question, gods of the stuff between all the 0's and 1's: Everybody talkin' about something with not enough steps, when turning knobs during
recording? Is this true, or has it been fixed?

Hi,
I have had a black face ATC for a couple of years now and it is amazing. I want to buy the ARP filter cartridge, but because I live in the UK I can't find it anywhere. Turnkey, the only dealer I can find here tells me it will take at least two months to order it, which is ridiculous. Can you tell me where I can find online, in San Fran (a friend can post
it from there), or in the UK? Alternatively, can I order it directly from you or from your online shop (any idea when it will be operational)? Any info would be appreciated, as I use the synth on everything and I'm in the middle of an album project at the moment.

Hey gang,
I just listened to your Omega 8 demo and was very impressed! It seems to possess much more versatility than either the ATC-1 or SE-1 while still maintaining your famous thick discrete analogue sound. :) I have one question however: Did any of the patches on the demo.mp3 utilize all 8 voices in unison mode? As a rule, I try to avoid loading up on too many voices of any one machine no matter how much I like it(I have still yet to use all 4 SEM's on our 4 voice for instance). It kind of forces me to mix up my synthesis in any one song. Right now, the 5 voice version is looking very tempting...

I just bought an ATC 1... This has to be one of the coolest synths ever.
I have a couple of questions... #1, I can't find anything in my manual on changing the MIDI base channel on the machine, is it always going to be on 1? #2, I noticed a difference in the knob style on my machine verses the photos on your website... Is there a way to get the knob with the SE logo on it? Finally, #3, where would be the best place to purchase the additional cartriges and selector bay, provided they are still available. Any info you can give me will be greatly appreciated!

Subject: Re: Omega8 O.S. 1.9a/Omega8 Patches 6.5.01
Date: Fri, 22 Jun 2001 04:20:02
Dear Marc and Greg,
As you may remember, I bought my Omega 8 (#1006) in the fall of '99, and I've been using it constantly ever since. It has not been back for any updates since that time (so I have no multi-timbral capability, arpeggiator, etc). I'm going to be in Japan for two weeks (chillin' not workin'), and I was thinking to send the unit back to you for whatever updates are needed (I know there are some EPROM changes necessary, as well as the latest OS). Also, do you have the alternate filters ready (2600 and 303)? I'm considering adding the filters to a couple of voices, if you think they're worthwhile. Let me know.
If you want to hear the Omega in action (not that you haven't already), I did a few cues for John McTiernan's ('Die Hard') remake of 'Rollerball', due out this summer. There's one cue with at least twenty tracks of Omega. It's also a big part of Jonathan Frakes' new movie 'Clockstoppers' (probably not out until next year); I'm averaging 4 to 5 tracks of the synth on each cue. I can't believe I worked without this thing. Another little note - I did a film shoot with my wife (who also plays keys), and we had a couple of Nord Leads in our setups (I guess people thought they looked interesting 'cause they're red). She had never played one (only the Omega and other real analogs), and she started going through patches: After fifteen or twenty, she gave me a disgusted look and said 'What the hell is this?' Didn't like it at all.
Just in case you're getting inquiries as to 'whether there's really a difference' between your instruments and the virtual thingys.
Lastly, I had talked to Greg in late '99 about getting my Prophet 5 racked. I know this is a royal pain for you guys, and not something you really want to do, but if there is any way to slip it in into your busy schedules, I'd be most obliged. I hate to leave the thing lying around doing almost nothing. Just let me know what it would take....
Thanks again,
Jamshied Sharifi

***this email is for Marc St. Regis***
Hi Marc,
I did not find your email on your business card, so I used the studio electronic contact. As you might remember we (Chris Adam, Jan-Hinnerk Helms) were the two guys from german based company Emagic (Logic Audio, SoundDiver etc.). We were VERY impressed by the demo song you made for the Studio Electronics instruments, in fact we'd REALLY like to have a copy of it as MP3, AIFF, SDII or WAV.
Do you think it is possible to send us a copy?
Thanks in advance

Hi guys,
Had a play on one of your synths over the weekend, at Turnkey London.
1) Great sound, would like one.
2) Am I right in thinking from the specs, I should be able to midi play a lead and bass at the same time, with full knob/midi control over each.
3) How many units sold.

Hi guys,
Thoroughly enjoying my Omega after 3 weeks with it. There's a new dimension
of bottom end warmth in the post Omega mixes which is thoroughly satisfying. Have
to say, I'm using it more for it's bottom end than anything else at the moment. Can't quite get those wild and whacky FX out of it that I used to love with the SE1 - I'm sure it's just down to poor programming capabilities.
Needless to say I'm always on the hunt for patches that real ability has created!
Cheers.

Hi Marc
Great news on Multi and the new patches of fx madness - can't wait! O8 has featured heavily (bass wise) in a mix of Texas' next single, which will be out in a few weeks. Mine are mainly dance mixes, but they've also asked for a radio chop. I'll try and do my bit to further the SE promotional cause (Texas currently have a number 3 album: Greatest Hits - down from #1, two of my remixes on it, and are one of the UK and Europe's biggest selling artist - don't know if they've made much impact on the States yet though). I'll keep you in the loop if there's anything worth shouting about.

Bit of a breach of Analogue discipline! What? What? ...Got the morale of those less stouthearted to consider, after all. Mmmm. We'll have to adopt a "wait and (to) see posture" re. what we can do with High Command M.I.D. to purge that slip from your confidential O.S. 1.8 Records.

Subject: ATC-1 is incredible!

Hello,
I just bought an ATC-1 a couple weeks ago. I took a risk and decided to buy
it instead of a Korg Ms2000 or Waldorf Pulse.
I can't believe i even considered buying a korg or waldorf! screw that crap.
keyboard mag's review couple years back was helpful.
Your ATC-1 blew my ears away!!! I thought my virus makes good bass sound, but now the virus is collecting dust. The ATC's deep sounds and ease of use is incredible. i thought the ATC-1 looked pretty cool. the organization is very clear and clean. makes sense. i don't have any music background but I had no trouble building sounds and enjoying it. I like the cartridges, reminds me of my atari games.
I can't wait to save up my money to buy the rest of the cartridges and a SE-1. too bad the omega is way out of my budget.
Couple questions:
1. Is there a downloadable version of the ATC-1 manual?
my manual looks to be missing a page. missing patch listing for 2600. it's always nice to have a backup manual on the computer.
2. Are their operating system updates for the ATC-1?
3. Is the SE-1 sold with the x upgrade pre-installed? If not, how hard is it to upgrade? soldering or plug and play?
Thank you very much!
A very happy customer,
Al

Greg and Company,
I've planned several times to send my Omega to you for upgrades, but it seems
to be insinuating itself into everything I do. I'm working now on Donny Osmond's new record (with producer Phil Ramone), and the Omega is a big part of the arrangements I'm doing. I'll be starting the score for Chris Rock's new movie ('Down To Earth') next week, and same thing. I just did a demo for another film with 21 tracks of Omega; in fact, the instrumentation was guitar, percussion, voice, and Omega - no other synths.
I got some beautiful (and sonically impenetrable) bass and ostinato sounds running

the Omega thru a Tech 21 SansAmp and a Manley VoxBox.
As you can see, it's hard to let the thing out of my sight. Maybe sometime in early 2001. Cheers to all of you for caring enough to make something that can actually be called an instrument.
Much love,
Jamshied Sharifi

Hi, everybody. I hate to be yet another satisfied customer to bug you about the Omega 8, but... so, what's up? I'd love one, of course, and besides the release date, I was wondering if I can purchase one direct from you and trade in my SE-1 towards it. Perhaps a bunch of tickets to Beach Blanket Babylon in SF (I'm music supervisor there) to sweeten the deal? Let me know. I couldn't live without my SE-1 - I've used it with Boyz II Men, on film and commercial projects with Francis Ford and Roman Coppola, and with a bunch of other names I have the questionable taste not to drop at this time.
Regardless of whether we can make a deal or not, thanks for the marvelous instruments, and keep up the great work. I'm certainly not trying to rush you!

Hi y'all!
Is the Omega finished? We're thinking about getting the 5- or 8-voice
version.
We already have the ATC-1 which we love, and also a JP-6 which is really cool, but we were thinking of getting rid of those and replacing them with the Omega. I'd like to try one out but I'm not sure if dealers here in Sweden will bring one home for trial. Would you say the Omega sounds similar to the ATC? Then everything is cool.
How about a demo CD with some nice electronic music made with the Omega?
Is it still possible to buy directly from you? What are the prices for the 5- and 8-voice?

Greg,
It was great to see you, Marc, Tim, and Cassie at the L.A. NAMM and to hear the Omega 2 and 8 in all their massive analog glory. I think the wait for them has been well worth it, and I'm happy to inform you that we've chosen both synths in our Top 25 highlights of the show.
While we didn't pick up any info from you there, I do have the details you provided on them for the July '99 New Gear column -- including their prices: $4,995 for the Omega 8 and $1,995 for the Omega 2. Are these prices still correct? Is there any new information that we didn't have then? Also, although you provided an image of the Omega 8 last summer, do you have a new image of the product that you'd rather appear in the magazine? If so, could you email it to me by Tuesday, February 15?
Thanks for your help, Greg. I look forward to hearing back from you soon. And please remind Marc that I want to hear any of his music as soon as it's released. The stuff I heard at your booth was killer, both compositionally and

Greg,
A follow-up to the previous missive.
I scrolled past the RANDOM waveform in the LFOs and found the S/H waves; very nice. I've made a patch with s/h filter and it's been 'running' for about 45 minutes; it's just gorgeous. This instrument is really taking me back to the days of my first Minimoog, when I used to sit and make ambiences for hours (while my friends would puff away - not tobacco).
I had forgotten how physical and visceral those instruments were; the Omega really carries on that tradition.

Subject: Re: HOw do you like???
Date: Sat, 8 Jan 2000 23:31:20
Dear Greg and Co,
Thanks for your email, and thanks for the Omega.
It sounds great. Really completely different than any of the virtuals, which is refreshing. There's a density and solidity to the sound that I haven't heard since I sold my Minis in 1981. It seems to be more solid-sounding than the Prophet-5, although there are many similarities. My wife was floored by the sound; she's a big fan of 70's soul and R&B, and she recognized the sound immediately as something different than all the other boxes I've got lying around. I love the way you've implemented the operating system. I could get around and edit on it immediately; it has the physicality of a one-knob-per-function analog like a Mini or P5, but obviously a lot more depth. The mod matrix took just a second to get used too (I'm accustomed to looking for the mod sources in the destination pages, rather than the source pages), but I can see the logic of your choice, and have no trouble now doing what I need to do. There a few places where I thought you might want to include negative mod values, but I haven't found a situation where I couldn't work around it. Making CC assignments for each knob is great - I'm sure I'll be using that a lot.

It's wonderful having different filter types. Literature for the Omegas states that it comes with 2 filters, but it feels like five different options (and it is). As I never owned an Oberheim, it's liberating to have that range of colors available, and makes the instrument quite a bit more versatile than my previous perception of analog. The upgrades you have planned all look great. A question - can these both be done via downloaded operating system, or will the unit need to go back to you for the voice card mods? The extra modulation routings will be very helpful, especially the ability to route Breath Controller (CC#2) to the destination list. Adding another page of routings will be most welcome; it's easy to think up more than 2 for expressive patches. Will cont1 and cont2 have six destinations as well? This would be most helpful.

Multi-timbral operation will take this thing to another world. It's hard to believe that it will be able to do most of what you could do with 8 Minis (in stereo, no less), but that's what it comes down to. By the way, how will audio routing be handled in multi-timbral mode? Specifically, could some voices be routed to individual outs while the rest share the stereo mains, without the individually-routed voices showing up in the stereo mix? This would be the most flexible, although I realize the most difficult, implementation. It would save having to devote 16 inputs to the Omega to separate, say, a bass sound while the rest of the voices play a pad. I quickly patched a sound through one of the external inputs, and they seem to work fine - that's another amazing resource. “I haven't noticed any bugs other than the ones noted in the V1 manual. I haven't had the unit crash on me, but I've been careful about playing and editing. By the way, the tuning seems extremely stable - I tuned it the day I got it (Dec 31), and haven't tuned it since. A very good sign. I like the way you've implemented the tuning as well, with variable out-of-tuneness. A nice touch…” Controller tracking seems to be smooth - kudos.

This is truly analog for the current era. This instrument does (or soon will do) all that I would expect a sophisticated digital instrument (like a K2500) to do, but sounds like the synths of my teens. I'm really, really impressed; so much so that I don't think of the Omega as a 'vintage' instrument. It's something else entirely.
Now, Greg, about the P5 mod for my Prophet...
